为促进白河县畜牧产业的发展，增加农民收入，今年初，县农技中心从市农科所引进优质、高产、高淀粉红薯新品种“梅营一号”种苗20.4万株，在中厂、茅坪、构扒、冷水等七个乡镇布点示范150亩。
时近红薯成熟期，市农科所胡纪念所长一行来白河视察“梅营一号”红薯田间生长情况。在农业局杨基东局长，县农技中心刘登群主任的陪同下，先后实地观看了中厂镇新厂村李官荷、构扒镇玉门村肖作弟两个田间示范点。在田间现场开挖了9窝，平均每窝产量在3——4公斤。原有的红薯品种每窝产量在1公斤左右。玉门村肖作弟种2亩红薯，其中1亩是“梅营一号”，1亩是原有红薯品种。通过开挖产量对比，肖作弟高兴地说：“梅营一号”就是好，比原有的红薯品种产量要翻一番多，明年还要扩大种植面积。
